Eden Hall day spa near Newark starts a new chapter under the Hiddenwell name

In the village of Elston, about five miles south-west of Newark, a turreted Victorian mansion has become one of Nottinghamshire's favourite places to slow down. Eden Hall is a day spa set in 15 acres of countryside, landscaped gardens and woodland.

The house has a story of its own. It is the former Elston Towers, a Victorian mansion built for the preacher Robert Middleton, which was refurbished as a day spa and renamed. The Good Spa Guide describes a gothic-style listed mansion dating to 1875, with turrets, towers and walnut-wood ceilings.

In May 2023 the spa opened a £4m Spa Garden. Its centrepiece is a stainless steel hydrotherapy pool with infinity edges and underwater jets, heated to an average of 39°C by a sustainable heating source, so guests can enjoy a soak even in cooler months. There is also an outdoor sauna, a fire pit and a sun-lit botanical brasserie called The Vinery. Managing director Nerys Chell said at the launch: "We're thrilled to unveil the new Spa Garden."

Indoors, the Good Spa Guide lists a 25-metre saltwater Vitality Pool, a Thermal Spa Suite with 12 thermal experiences and a Slumber Lounge, with treatments using products from partners including Elemis and Voya. The guide awards Eden Hall its top rating of 5 Bubble Luxury, praising the historic building, eco credentials, design and staff, and notes it is trained in cancer care.

In June 2026 the parent company Barons Eden rebranded as Hiddenwell, and the spa became Eden Hall by Hiddenwell. Chief executive Ed Law said the new identity reflects a focus on "helping people discover moments of wellbeing, restoration and connection." This summer skincare brand Grown Alchemist returned to the 12,000 sq ft spa garden to offer facials and curated rituals from June to September.

The spa's own site lists a Bubble luxury award in 2025 and a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice award in 2024, and it offers spa days, twilight sessions and seasonal experiences.

There are no bedrooms here, which is part of the charm: Eden Hall is all about a day well spent, from a morning swim to a late afternoon in the garden pool.
