Nottinghamshire end a 15-year wait to be crowned county champions at Trent Bridge

There are few better places to watch a title being won than Trent Bridge, and in September 2025 Nottinghamshire supporters finally got to see it happen. Peter Moores' side were crowned 2025 County Champions, the club's first Division One title in 15 years and its first since 2010.
It was the seventh County Championship in the club's history, and it was thoroughly earned. Notts won seven matches, more than any other county, and finished 16 points clear of second-placed Surrey. Their only defeat of the campaign came away at Durham.
The run-in was tense. A week before the final round, Notts beat their nearest challengers Surrey by 20 runs at the Kia Oval. That left the title to be settled at home against Warwickshire. With three bowling bonus points already banked after the visitors were bowled out for 258 on the opening day, Notts needed 300 runs in 110 overs to collect the batting bonus points that would seal the title. Led by a century from captain Haseeb Hameed, they got there in exactly 84 overs, with Kyle Verreynne hitting the decisive runs with a sizeable six.
The club's own report noted that it was the first time Notts had won the title at Trent Bridge since 1987, when Clive Rice led a squad containing Sir Richard Hadlee and Mick Newell to the crown.
The numbers behind the title tell the story of a genuine team effort. Hameed scored 1,258 first-class runs, including a double hundred against Somerset, while Brett Hutton led the wicket-takers with 38. Mohammad Abbas and Josh Tongue both passed 30 wickets, Ben Slater reached 1,000 first-class runs and Jack Haynes struck four centuries on his way to a county cap.
There were memorable individual moments too. Lyndon James made 203 against Hampshire, a historic first for a Notts number seven, and Fergus O'Neill took 21 wickets at 17.90 on a four-match contract before heading home to Australia.
The club summed it up as a team and squad victory, with nine batters scoring centuries and seven bowlers taking five-wicket hauls across the summer.
For a county with such a long and proud history, it was a season to treasure. Fixtures, membership details and the full story of the 2025 campaign can be found on the Trent Bridge website.
